About
Welcome to stratosphear.ca, the repository of my rambling thoughts that can’t be contained within a tweet’s 140-character limit. Here you’ll find a hopefully intriguing if confusing mélange of observations about Canadian and international politics, music, pop culture, food, and reflections of a personal nature.
I joined Twitter three or four years ago – my first follower was amazing @nonpromqueen – but it was only when I started tweeting at the 2009 federal Liberal biennial convention (went alone, bored, had to fill the time somehow) that anyone noticed the entity that is @stratosphear. One of my first political followers was @bgrice who earns my eternal thanks for giving me the name for this blog.
Since then, I fell into social media consulting and freelance writing – the two worlds that meet here at stratosphear.ca – with past accomplishments and endeavours including weekly columns for the Belleville Intelligencer and the County Weekly News, lead articles on culinary tourism for Horn Trip Magazine, advisory social media roles for municipal and Liberal campaigns as well as for the Green Party of Ontario, and work with clients (focus on culinary enterprise, real estate, and events) through our erstwhile company, Scout Design, based in Prince Edward County.
In September 2011 I returned with my partner @creative_rene to Ottawa after almost a precisely ten-year hiatus, and I’m very happy indeed to be back in the National Capital Region. While I enjoyed my past work, I’m now trying to focus on writing, editing, politics, and learning.
René is largely responsible for tweaking this site’s design and overall calming me down when I freak out because widgets are incomprehensible to me. My dog @fletcherwiener helps out almost daily by licking my hand while I type. My alter ego Stratty is responsible for every tweet that you find morally objectionable.
If you like what you read, please follow me (@stratosphear) – I follow back – and feel free to leave a comment.
